Olympics day 2

The highlight for us today was Australia winning the women’s 4 by 100m freestyle relay for the third time, with a new world record. The team was Bronte Campbell, Meg Harris, Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell.

It’s hard to know what to feel about these Olympics. There is so much disappointment about what’s not possible, and what is different from previous Olympics. At the same time, there is a spirit of hope, and admiration that so many people have worked so hard to enable the Games to happen, despite the odds.

The photo shows a lantern in Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, founded in 645. The temple and its precinct were a highlight of our visit to Tokyo in 2017.

How sad the athletes can't be as free to enjoy Japan as we were.
