Sunflowers and burgers

We have been looking for a fire cradle/basket thingy, the bit that goes in the fireplace and does the important business of holding the burning material in place. We found one on a local online marketplace and set off for Saint Sozy this morning to collect it. The couple who were selling it were very nice and their terrific wooden clad house had been a self build, an experience that they said they would never wish to repeat!. Being half way to Domme, one of our favourite villages, we decided to go there for lunch.  Big mistake; half of France, a third of Holland and most of Belgium seemed to be there.  All the car parks were full. So we baled out and set off for home, stopping along the way to photograph the sunflowers.  Now, between Sarlat and Souillac there is an old train station that has been converted into a roadside eatery.  We were hungry so we decided to try it.  We ordered the "Burger sud-west" without much enthusiasm and in expectation of a stomach filling experience rather than a culinary delight. It turned out to be a burger of ground duck, placed on strips of tasty smoked duck and topped with pan fried foie-gras. The bun was black brioche. It was amazing!  Back home we needed a siesta, especially after discovering that the fire basket doesn't fit into our fireplace!
