Today we walked past many fields some of which had sheep and others had cows but mostly they were barley.  We commented that it would not be long until they started harvesting the barley fields as many were already golden and way ahead of the wheat which is still green.  Extra The field beans are not ready yet athough it might not be very long before the rapeseed is ripe. In a corner of a field there are some self seeded oats and wheat among this year’s barley.  To my surprise when we got home I noticed that the barley was being cut in the field across the road. This is the earliest I have seen it here and 20 days earlier than the previous first date of the harvest.  Last year the wheat was not harvested until 54 days later on September 17th and by then much of it had been flattened by wind and rain but this year the barley looks a good harvest.
