I never usually bother to answer the landline in my own house and the only remaining handset is kept under a cushion at the back end of the inaccessible arm of the sofa in order to reduce the opportunities for the wingpiglet to incur accidental costs upon it. The handset which came free with the house was briefly connected to the extension socket upstairs until it started making odd peeping noises one night. This will be a couple of feet from my head for the next few nights so will hopefully not emit any strange night-time noises such as the flowery ringing tone it is known to exhibit; it was only connected recently but I don't know if this means it's not yet going to be on the sort of lists that the TPS tries vainly to protect from or whether a freshly-listed new number is flagged for special attention by the robots who operate automated recorded-message spam services.
