Pretty Aylesford

In an effort to learn some more about the county of Kent we set off yesterday to visit the village of Aylesford about 35 miles from Deal. It is a pretty little place with a beautiful old stone bridge stretching across the River Medway. The bridge is made of Kentish rag stone and was probably built around 1250, it is not used by traffic anymore but people and cyclists still use it. The village itself has a small main street of Tudor style houses but the pearl is the Carmelite Friary on the outskirts.
The Friary was established in 1242, the Friars remained here until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1530s and did not return again until 1949. It is serene and peaceful tucked away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
Whilst standing in the cloister we heard a whoosh and felt a movement as a white robed friar rushed by - was it a ghost? see extra.
