Baby Tufties

It’s been a number of years since I have seen Tufted Duck ducklings and on a dull morning the little fluffy balls look almost black.

The adult birds are similar to Eider ducks ….. the males are black and white and the females are dark brown. No sign of any male tufties today but I did see about half a dozen females on the Rouken Glen pond. One female had five little ducklings that just scooted about constantly ducking and diving.

I’ve got Poppy tomorrow so instead of going to Pollok we’ll go to Rouken Glen and hope that I can get some better photos in better light but that willingly be possible if the youngsters keep near to the edge and don’t disappear into reeds and other very dense vegetation.
