Water creatures   The aroma of freshly cooking bacon greeted us as we approached the family’s tent so we enjoyed a delicious bacon roll and drink with the family before they went away on their bikes and we wandered through the extensive grounds of Culzean. We met up again up for a picnic on the beach when the tide was more favourable for swimming and canoeing.  Yesterday’s sandcastle had fallen to the high tides and the photo shows the oldest and youngest grandchildren with their dad paddling in their inflatable canoe. They missed the sudden showers till later but Arran in the distance seemed to have several in the afternoon.
Around Culzean there are several willow sculptures depicting and describing both real and mythical sea and water creatures. There was no time to find all of the15 which include the terrifying Kraken and mythical selkie and heron but the extra includes some.  -  A Loch Ness Monster in the Swan Pond; a mermaid outside the Arch; a crab in the Home Farm courtyard; a starfish in the Walled Garden; dolphins on the Fountain Lawn.  Also we found a skeleton of a poor dolphin.
All too soon it was time to return home but hopefully we will see the busy family again before next year as we have seen them on only six days since 2019.
