Some unusual Arbus photos

The show of Diane Arbus’s work currently on view at the Fraenkel Gallery was curated by the photographer Carrie Mae Weems. About half the works she’s selected are the Arbus works I’ve seen frequently over the decades. Another quarter were somewhat familiar. But at least a quarter of them were pictures I don’t remember ever seeing before. Here’s one of my favorites: a self-portrait of a pregnant young Arbus. The extras are  1) a photographer arranging a communion boy, and 2) a transvestite couple.
