a lifetime burning

In perfect balance

This is a common darter dragonfly, that appears to frequent our little pond.  I suspect that it might even be one of our recent crop of recently emerged dragons, but its impossible to say for sure.  I've been noticing it off and on for more than a week now.  Its not very big, the body is just over an inch long, so its only slightly bigger than the larger damselflies.  I love its little blue legs, caught in that ray of sunshine - I think that its the female but I'm not sure at this stage.

We were due to have been away this weekend, staying with Cathy's brother Steve and and wife Ann.  Just as we were about to get into the car to set off this morning, we received a call from Steve, who explained that he had "cold like symptoms"...

Although he'd done a lateral flow test which had proved negative we decided that we probably would be sensible to rearrange the weekend - just in case.  We're hoping to see my sister Janet in about 10 days time for her birthday celebration and are being incredibly careful not to expose ourselves to catching anything in the interim, as she has had a kidney transplant and is potentially more vulnerable as a result.

Its a bit of a shame, as we were looking forward to our first weekend away in over a year(!) but at least he got hold of us before we got stuck in the inevitable motorway madness.
