Making Arrangements

We've arranged our chairs
so that we don't have to look
at one another.

It seems to be a way forward.

Each can pretend the other
is not there.

We won't have to speak.

We might need to fine tune the arrangement.

I think, as they are,
there is still a danger
that we could glimpse one another
out of the corners of our eyes.

Then again, I wouldn't want to turn
my back on her completely.

She may have a knife.
