I need a longer lens . . .

We have a house next to a couple of fields and some woodland, from which we assume we have visits by Green Woodpeckers.  It feels wonderful to have such new and exotic wildlife around us since moving deeper into the countryside and this morning these two were perched on a telegraph pole and calling to the world.

I reckon that they are juveniles, after consulting the RSPB website: they lack the dark "moustache" visible on adults and the cap is a faded orange.  In addition, their call was quite short and varied, unlike the "laughing" call that you can hear on the website.

I have surprised adults several times on our front lawn, but when we have seen them on the ground they have very short legs and seem to move nearly sideways, in hops.  They are delightful creatures.
