Corner Seat

Mono Monday: Corner Seat

Cathy and I bestirred ourselves and had a trip to Wells this morning.  I had it mind that the Cathedral's Gothic architecture would offer plenty of potential subjects for Random_Angel's "corner" theme.

This is a shot of the Chapter House now over 800 years old and described as having the most beautiful decorated interior in England. Certainly this lady sitting on the corner seat is lost in contemplation of all the lovely details.  What you can't see from this mono, is that the chapel is built from a lovely pale honey stone which almost seems to glow in the light.  The central column is Purbeck Marble and is intended to look a bit like a palm tree.

While we were in the Cathedral a young chap was being put through his paces by his conductor - he had the most amazing high tenor voice, which echoed around the open Cathedral spaces.  I must admit, there was a small voice at the back of my head humming along with the Blackadder theme, but then I'm a bad man.

Blackadder does feature the Bishop of Bath and Wells - you may remember that the baby eating Bishop of Bath and Wells is the monstrous debt collector for the Bank of the Black Monks of St Herod.  While in Wells you can visit the Bishop's Palace gardens.  They looked as if they are in tip top condition but at £15 each Cathy and I decided not to further line the pockets of the Black Monks and instead  went off to find a toasted sandwich and a nice cup of tea ;-)

Finally, I am a bit taken aback that yesterday's self portrait in the style of Rembrandt has become so popular - but thank you everyone for all the very nice things you have said, and the hearts and stars.
