Comely Bank Planes

I always enjoy walking along Comely Bank under the plane trees. Since they built the somewhat controversial shopping parade and knocked down the wall that used to run behind the trees (causing even more local upset) you can now walk with the trees shielding you from the road and without the danger of tripping over tree roots causing uneven paving. So, despite the disquiet about the new development, it actually seems to have made quite a pleasant thoroughfare. Of course, since all this work was being completed at the start of the pandemic, things have got off to a slow start. We have yet to see how successful the whole enterprise is and whether all the units will be filled.

According to Treetime Edinburgh (where you can adopt a tree) the row has sixteen trees.  I must count them someday! The mature London planes are not very common in Scotland but are often planted as street trees in southern England.

I do like them.
