Crumbsuckers Life of Dreams

Crumbsuckers 'Life of Dreams' (Rough Justice, 1986)

By now you should know what crossover is. 'Life of Dreams' is a very fine example of the genre and could be used as a touchstone should you ever need to describe to a friend or colleague what crossover is. A regular occurrence for most I would imagine.

Although leaning much more towards hardcore than thrash, 'Life of Dreams' has the steel of metal, mainly provided by the guitar solos, chunky 'mosh parts' and free flowing instrumental interludes, and it's obvious that the band would progress to the much more polished and metallic sounds/image on the follow up, 'Beast on my Back'.

Those with good memories might recognise the artwork as being that of Sean Taggart and it's one of his finest with the sinister crumbsuckers, well, sucking crumbs. The back cover, in particular, really sums up the look and feel of the hardcore scene at the time.

I was pleasantly surprised when 'Life of Dreams' hit the death deck for the first time after I'd raided Jon's sadly neglected collection and I've not been disappointed since. I've listened to the LP four or five times in recent weeks and I've grown fonder of it each time. This could have provided the soundtrack to a heavy session of skating and lager in 1990 without a doubt. Excellent stuff.

Peace
