The Dean's Stairs

We met friends today for a triforium tour of St Paul's Cathedral.   The triforium is the hidden corridor that runs around the nave at the very top of the Cathedral.  It's mostly used as a storage space, but also houses the sewing circle and Christopher Wren's massive model of the Cathedral.  The access to the triforium is up the Dean's Stairs pictured here.   There are 88 steps and each one is set 150mm into the wall and then rests on the one below - no other support needed.   Like everything else in St Paul's, it's a marvel.    These steps have famously appeared in 3 movies: Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and the Madness of King George.
