Checking In

We headed north to Aviemore today - here's CyclopsJnr at the adventure playpark at the hotel.

We had a lovely lunch in Newtonmore at The Wild Flour (fab cheese and ham toastie, delicious white chocolate and raspberry cookie).

Next we went to the Highland Folk Museum.  I didn't expect much of it, but I wish we'd left ourselves at least twice as long to explore in the end.  We also did it wrong way round...  The 1930's Croft is interesting but not that different to many other museums I've seen - it's the 1730's rural township that is totally fascinating (and we only had a few minutes left to look at.  My bad.  We'll be back!

Next we headed to the hotel.  We'd managed to book a swim in the afternoon, so we did that then checked in.  It took an hour, and the only reasonably child-friendly time we could get for dinner was 17:30 so we ended up eating before we checked in!

We've got a great deal here and are happy enough, but it is a shambles!  We tried to book dinner in advance but reception just doesn't answer the phone.  The bar was a shambles.  Dinner is a very limited menu served post-apocalyptic canteen style in a ridiculous setup that seems to take twice as many staff and cause more chaos than just serving tables would.  Our room seems clean enough, but we did find a big stash of medication from a previous guest in a drawer...  Possibly not as thoroughly disinfected as their claims would suggest then!

We're seeing the funny side, but not everyone seems happy...

Anyway, it does us.

Looking forward to more adventures tomorrow!
