Snack time at the Plaster House, Tanzania

Our local partner in Arusha, Tanzania provides surgery for children from rural areas.

Cases of club foot and cleft lip are common. As is skeletal fluorosis; a debilitating disease which buckles young bones and results from the high levels of naturally occurring fluoride in the Rift Valley. Many local children are also injured by open open fires used for cooking. Burns can result in contractures which restrict limb movement.

Surgery restores hope to children. Young patients recover in a homely environment called the 'Plaster House', with housemothers to care for them and nutritious food to aid the healing proccess.
