Shepton Mallet Prison

Shepton Mallet's Prison was also called CORNHILL it has a long history dating back to 1610
Became an American Military Prison during WWII
1966 saw it reverting to a Civilian Prison again closing finally on the 28 March 2013
It is now a museum - but some parts are in a derelict state

The area of the prison in Shepton is very old and has many rich woollen merchant houses well worth a visit the prison walls are enormously ;high - very daunting for the one time inmates
