A little ray of sunshine

Going Wild

A short run around both reservoir, then a delightful swim, till we were interrupted. We'd said good morning to the two police officers who were sat on a bench when we ran passed. We couldn't see them when we walked back down to our favourite entry point. There are a lot of trees around the reservoir and I did think it unlikely they had left. Just as we started our second trip down the reservoir I spotted them ambling down the path. With a bright red hat and a bright orange tow float I was never going to be mistaken for a duck. They really didn't rush to call us over to tell us we couldn't swim there, albeit whilst acknowledging that we were well equipped, confident swimmers. They were probably relieved to see us, maybe then they could get on with some more useful jobs! We had a good conversation about the frustration over lack of outdoor swim spots, and the negative press coverage due to recent deaths, ones which so often involve non swimmers, drugs, drink and lack of knowledge of cold water. Swimming will continue no matter how many signs are up saying No. The answer has to be in education and better swimming lesson provision.
