Robyn Gordon ....

.... is the name of this Grevillea, one of the most popular horticultural varieties. Lennox Head, the headland rather than the town, is out of focus in the background.

Grevillea Robyn Gordon first appeared in the 1960s as a natural hybrid. This happened in a private botanic garden called Myall Park in southern Queensland. The garden was owned and developed by plant enthusiast David Gordon. He planted many grevilleas from around Australia. Grevillea banksii from north Queensland was planted alongside Grevillea bipinnatifida from Western Australia. A natural hybrid resulted, which Mr Gordon called Robyn Gordon in memory of his daughter who died in 1969.
