Loosestrife

The Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) in our back garden attracts an insect I have so far been unable to identify exactly. I think it must either be some kind of bee or a species of bee-mimicking drone fly such as Eristalis pertinax or Eristalis tenax. Can anyone out there help me to identify it?
