Persey report

Firstly, thanks so much for all the good wishes for Persey who has been doing poorly with an unidentified illness. The visit to the previous Vet was a total (but expensive) dud. He may be good with dogs but...

Persey saw his nice Lady Vet Heather yesterday who really got to the problems.  As you may see in the photo where he sleeps in the bathroom infirmary, the reddish spot above his left eye is actually a swollen place connected to his jaw. Black cats' fur make it difficult to see some problems. His ears are red too. The Vet thinks that he has some inflamed tooth or bone problem that has to be looked at. But it is painfully swelling his gums, face, and causing difficulty eating. He cannot chew the dry food, but he is hungry and so scarfs it whole without chewing, then vomits it up, whole. The jaw and surround eye are very painful as well as is  the tooth (or teeth).
Inflammation was the word of the day along with our incredible high heat and humidity. Blood tests showed his kidneys are okay, thankfully. But his liver is inflamed. If the Vet told me why I do not remember. She could not give him other injections for his swelling because of his liver problem. Do we think he has a secret drinking problem?
And after 4 days with no water or food he is not dehydrated! Maybe he did go to the water fountain when I slept?
What else is inflamed? The ears. It is a bacterial infection. Weeks ago PJ told me she though his ears felt hot to the touch but I ignored it. So, his antibiotic injection and ear drops/wipes may take care of this ear problem.
I have pain medication to sprinkle on his soft food for the jaw swelling. We go back in two weeks.
I have not allowed him outside today in the beautiful, not too hot, sunshine. Besides he's on drugs.
The bill was $249.
The estimate for the dental exam and teeth repair: $900.00 to 1000.00
or I could put that toward a down payment on a new car.
