Thames Forts and Barges

We were up at 5.30am and out of our hotel in time to get over to Gravesend Town Pier to catch a boat. We joined a group of other photographers to capture the Thames Sailing Barge Match. We followed the Thames out towards Southend, The River Medway and Ramsgate. When the boats turned back, we carried on out to sea. First we circled the visible bits of the SS Richard Montgomery, read the story of this ticking time bomb here

We then headed further out to the Red Sands Forts. For us this was the most exciting bit of the trip, fascinating derelict relics from World War 2.

The weather was glorious for the majority of the trip and the sea smooth enough to make boat based photography pretty easy. The barges were impressive too, a couple of extras of the boats included.

A good day.
