The Winter Residence

This is the house on our farm. The wide angle flatters it a bit as it is really quite a small cottage.
It was built in the 1890s and for a while served as a Post Office (as well as residence) when, due to the nearby shale mines, Nellies Glen (our corner of the Megalong Valley) had a population of about 200. Now, counting weekenders, it's less than 20.
For a while it has home to a young Bernard O'Reilly, an Australian identity, and we have a letter he wrote to my late mother-in-law confirming this.
My parents-in-law purchased it 50 years ago and the family used it as a holiday house. However last year we moved here during Covid and liked it so much we have decided to make it our Winter Residence ;-)
It is very "rustic" but a lot easier to keep warm than our house in Blackheath.
Thanks for hosting with this week’s theme of "history", RockArea.

Our son and his family were released from 14 days home quarantine today.
From the relative seclusion of Leura they had decided to go to Penrith for Covid vaccinations 2 weeks ago rather than wait several weeks for an appointment in the mountains. That was just before the outbreak really took off there.
How unlucky can you be to get a call a couple of days later to say the Dr's rooms was a hotspot and you are a close contact!
We were all pretty worried to say the least. I didn't sleep much till the first negative test came back but now they've had three and looks like they have dodged a bullet.

Finally, thank you for all the advice on my recalcitrant rhubarb yesterday.
Who needs Google when you have Blip :-)
