North by North East

Tomorrow I will head off in the direction of the title, though the direction may not be precisely correct. My two weeks in Twyford is complete, and from what the forecast says I am heading off up to the snow. Well I travelled through a few blizzards on the way down, so it seems I am going to do so again on the way North.

The sign on the left of this Blip is relatively new, I had not noticed it until a few days ago. It shows a few of the claims to fame of Twyford which was an important stop on the stagecoach route to and from the West. There was a coaching Inn here, I think the building still exists but has been converted to a different use. Twyford stands on the Great Western Railway, and still has what was at one time an alms house, just in front of Waitrose.

Twyford also has a substantial model shop. I wondered how it could support such a shop. Today I went in for a wander round. In the few minutes I was there a couple of people came in. I think it probably specialises on dolls houses. The young lady in the shop was painting an Aga cooker blue. I suggested to her blue was not an appropriate colour for an Aga. She said she agreed and had pointed this out to the purchaser but they were insistent. After offering my sympathy I left with a very small VW Camper van.

And so I leave Twyford safe in the knowledge it is guarded by the soldiers in front of her shop.
