What struck my fancy

with views, at the former airforce base, Sculthorpe, Norfolk UK.The peeling wall paint looks like a large map.

Very briefly: came into use in 1943 - NZ and Australian air forces. From 1944 mainly USAF and RAF. From 1952 the 47th Bomber Wing moved here from Langley, Virginia and were part of the West's nuclear deterrent. The base came out of use in about 1992.

The land around the runway area is fenced off and cattle occupy it, however, when the military want to use the area the cattle are removed and planes, helicopters and the interesting V22 Osprey vertical take-off plane can be seen.

The extra shows a wall socket which has seen better days.

It's an interesting place.
