Commission

I was asked to take a photo of this statue of Major General William Earle at St George's Plateau, Liverpool, by a friend who has researched and written about slavery. The Major General, who died in Sudan after trying unsuccessfully to rescue Gordon from Khartoum, was the son of an owner of a number of plantations in Antigua.
As it happens, the city has invited artists and designers to dress several of the statues in the city to develop the debate about their place in cities today (see tomorrow's blip!).
