The Caiy Stane

A pretty uneventful walk around Oxgangs, Fairmilehead and Swanston except for coming across the Caiy State.  This is located in a small recess in the wall along the west side of Caiystane View, a few metres from the junction of Oxgangs road, Edinburgh. The stone is of red sandstone and reaches a height of 2.75m with a breadth of 1.60m. A weathered row of six cup marks can be seen at low level in its east side. The stone is said to mark the site of a battle between the Picts and the Romans.
