Frederick Douglass Mural

I pass this mural of Frederick Douglass on Lower Gilmore Place often when I'm on a run.  It was painted by mural artist TrenchOne (Ross Blair) towards the end of 2020.  In the mid - late1840s Douglass lived at 33 Gilmore Place when he campaigned in Edinburgh for the abolition of slavery.  He was born into slavery but escaped and became a leading figure in the slavery abolitionist movement.  The mural came to prominence this year when Prime Minister Boris Johnstone gifted a framed photograph of the mural to President Joe Biden at the G7 meeting in Cornwall.  The photograph was taken by Melissa Highton.  The President presented the PM with a custom made US built bicycle!
