Everyday I Write The Book

Hard pillows

Some people (cats) prefer ‘em that way.

We did an 11 mile cycle ride down to Ash Vale today. The Basingstoke Canal is lovely after Brookwood, lots of wide sections and beautiful pools and lively gardens. But I was so busy enjoying myself I didn’t get the camera out, which is why I’ve ended up blipping scout again.

We bought our bikes back on the train to Woking. Ash Vale itself is a less than pleasant station that has six flights of steps up to the platform (no lifts) and there were a couple of guys crashed out in the stairwell who looked like they were straight out of Trainspotting. Plus a couple of girls waiting for the same train as us whose false eyelashes were so long Tom Daley could have used them as diving boards. They had a nice line in loud banter. "So his effing mum  said he could eff off which was fine by me he’s an effing devil when he’s effing drunk the effing bastard".

Back in our home town we had a very nice coffee in the bookshop, bought some veg, and came home to a summer’s evening in the garden with lovely home made nasi goreng (TSM’s signature dish at the moment).

Finished reading The Island of Lost Trees, Elif Shafak’s latest bit of magical realism which I absolutely loved. Very good Guardian review here
