Little Jack Horner

This is  the first year of our two plum trees in the garden.

It is good to see that our investment is bearing fruit.

A beautiful morning. After too many grey skies Summer has finally returned.

Being of an inquisitive nature I wondered who Jack Horner really was.
It seems that in the 18th C. he was often used in satire to represent politicians. The Christmas pie was the public purse and the plum which Jack pulled out was symbolic of greed.

Of course when as innocent children we sang this rhyme we were blissfully unaware of these aspects of life..
