At Hackney Marshes

This is the Devon Hackney Marshes near Newton Abbot, not to be confused with the London area famous for football pitches. On the old canal which joins the River Teign there are usually egrets here and there. We were outside the Passage House Inn waiting for it to open at 11.00am for coffee in the sunshine by the river. There was no one else at first. Idyllic. Later walking round the area we saw Kingfishers in the usual spot but also looking down from a bridge one flew below us - an unusual exciting view. From there we walked to the Stover Canal and tea and niceties at the Locks Bridge Cafe. We saw lots of butterflies including a Painted Lady, but not many Martins on the detour by the river. This is a superb area.
