Day 4 Abbys, Castles and monument

The Four Abbeys cycle route today. 57 miles starting from Melrose. We had a slow start, trying to get my wheel sorted. One cycle shop was really helpful, but despite putting more juice in the tyre, couldn’t really sort the thru axle problem.

The Four Abbeys cycle route today. 57 miles starting from Melrose. Once on the road, we toodled along until came to a donkey sanctuary, but it was closed. What a shame. But I managed to hop over a wee fence and have a stroke of a few that came to say hello. Then on to Dryburgh Abbey where  William Wallace is buried. We could not get near the Abbey, like all of them they are fenced off because of unsafe rocks. Then on to his monument - built in 1814 and stands on a 9 ft plinth and is 21 ft tall. Next Kelso Abbey, and then Cressford castle - which despite being an over grown ruin we could go inside it and explore. Jedburgh Abbey next, which is somewhere I have always wanted to go and finally Melrose Abbey. The sun came out today and it felt like summer. Late start so a late finish. Our last night in Innerleithen before we head west. Kelso Abbey, Cressford castle, Jedburgh Abbey and finally Melrose Abbey. The sun came out today and it felt like summer. Our last night in Innerleithen, tomorrow we move on to Portpatrick
