Susan by our yacht

We went by train to Inverness today. We were planning to do the line to the Kyle of Lochalsh but have held that over to possibly do tomorrow.

Inverness will be lovely when it’s finished. Much building work going on and there’s a big project with the Castle which may take years to bring to completion.

The city has a fine waterfront along the banks of the River Ness, some splendid buildings which were mixed in with some horrible boxes which spoil the skyline.

After lunch we walked along the Ness to pick up the Caledonian canal which we followed all the way to where it joins the Beauly Firth. What a walk that was, especially the last mile or so out into the Firth with fine views all around in lovely clear conditions.

The Caledonian Sleeper was in the platform next to our train when we left. In charge of the first stage was an interesting pair of locos, a Class 66 freight loco No 66789 from GBRf and an elderly Class 73 73971 electro diesel loco built in 1966, designed to run on third rail in the south of England and listed as based at St Leonard’s depot.
