Train day today, not to Workington, but Scruton, otherwise known as the Thankful Village.
Thankful because all those who left the village to fight in the First World War returned safely. This was extremely rare, very few villages or towns could say the same. And so they describe themselves as thankful, or blessed.

The train travels from Bedale to Scruton, stopping at Leeming Bar. The Wensleydale Line travels much further Ned hopefully we’ll see it opened again soon.

Extra of St Radegund Church in Scruton.

Radegund (520 – 587) was a Thuringian princess and Frankish queen, who founded the Abbey of the Holy Cross at Poitiers. She is the patron saint of churches in France and England and of Jesus College, Cambridge.
