Laundry

This is the laundry on board the former Royal Yacht Britannia, now a tourist attraction at Leith in Edinburgh. We had a fascinating visit to Britannia in 2019. The Britannia website says;

“With over 240 Officers and Yachtsmen and numerous uniform changes required on a daily basis - the Laundry was very busy and very hot. Britannia was the only ship in the Royal Navy to have such a large Laundry; this was partly due to her potential secondary role as a hospital ship. The Laundry was staffed by its own crew, since the Royal Yacht was one of very few Royal Navy ships that did not have a Chinese Laundry service”. Presumably the royal laundry was done here as well.

And why a blip? Well, it’s a tenuous connection, but we need to replace our twenty year old washing machine, and I spent much of today researching the available options. There are so many models, with so many features, and yet none is quite right… Really it would be easier if there was no choice.
