Difficult Decision, or the Knitter's Dilemma

I started this knitting project before Christmas but have had no time recently to pick it up again. It's not quite working as I wanted and I think the right thing to do is to rip it out and start again but that feels a bit of a wrench! Maybe tomorrow, if we get snowed in as anticipated...
