Siren Soap Ghost Sign

A walk to Redfern where I was surprised to see this ghost sign a few doors from a former workplace. The grocer’s name in the early 1950s, B M Bann, is still etched in glass above the front door. A dip into the online newspaper archives revealed her Welsh immigrant parents lived here at the time of their golden wedding anniversary in 1938. Earlier residents included an SP bookmaker, a second-prize lottery winner and the parents of a baby boy who died in infancy.

Siren soap is long gone but an early ad promised that wrappers could be redeemed for a gold or silver watch.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
