Blooming heather

Bank holiday weekend, and we had planned to go out for a walk tomorrow. But today dawned hot and sunny, with more of the same forecast, far too good to spend painting or in the workshop!

I was keen to get up on to the local moors to see the heather in bloom, so we set out on a walk straight from the door. Up to the Common, then to the top of Coldberry Hill. Not very high, but from the top there are good views of the interesting landscape towards the Cheviot (extra). From there an easy walk along a short section of St Cuthbert's way (Blip and extra) to the track leading down to Monday Cleugh. The heather may have been a little past its best, but it was fabulous!

A lovely walk on a beautiful day, and we saw maybe a dozen people in all. There may be queues of people waiting to reach the top of Snowdon, but there was no-one else on the slopes of Coldberry Hill!
