Sally Mair - Loving life

Out and about in Fife

We took a trip out to Fife this afternoon after doing some running around in town. We drove first to Kinross to the garden centre which I visited last week. We picked up some healthy lettuce plants in the hope of extending our home grown salads a little longer. Most of those which are left in the garden have bolted by now, there are some leaves left but they are getting scarcer.
We had lunch in the garden centre cafe which has some very tasty items on the menu. I had a baked potato with chicken and banana in a mild (warm) curry sauce. Colin had something very similar as a hot dish.
From there we went into Kinross and walked a little of the path around Loch Leven, clockwise. We spotted some nasty blue-green algae, which I'd never seen before but which was instantly recognisable. Sadly there was some himalayan balsam too on the waterside.
Part of the way around we met this group of cyclists. The lady being transported was very cheery, she had a warm blanket over her knees and said she was having a wonderful trip out. I've never seen these before but thought they were great.
We visited the old kirkyard too and spotted several birds including a very indignant pheasant who objected loudly to being disturbed. He flew up and over the graveyard wall and continued to tell us off for a good few minutes, from the reed beds on the other side of the wall. There were lovely views across to the castle which sadly is still closed due to Covid restrictions. We intend to return when we can.
We drove further round the loch and stopped at Scotlandwell at a farm shop near the gliding club. A good cup of coffee and a scone helped to pass the time.
We got back to Edinburgh around 5.30 and went over to Ali's. Their kitchen is finished now and they are in the final stages of preparing for the baby. Three weeks to go hopefully, we swapped cats and lawn mowers and headed back home.
Mounts night is BBC2s quiz night. We were on form for Only Connect and did better than the teams in UC, neither of which seemed to have very much charisma, the scores weren't particularly good either.

Keep safe everybody, today's numbers seem to be very low but I think that's likely a post weekend /Bank Holiday glitch
