On the Road

Dave, Shelly and I shared a car today. We met the rest of the family at Coral Pink Dunes Utah State Park. We all wandered around and then we three took off on our own. This kind of a wander is a McMillan family tradition and usually Dave drives as he did today. We took a dirt road off the highway that had a sign saying “Harris Mountain 3 Miles.” Up the hill we went. The road was narrow but doable in Dave’s truck. Forgot to mention that Dave and Nora’s Havanese came along with us. The road wandered up among scrub oaks, pines, yellow, red and purple flowering shrubs. We continued up to a plateau with a 360 view of hills with layers of gold and orange rock. It was beautiful. We crossed a number of cattle guards in and out of areas of open range. We kept expecting to arrive at Harris Mountain or some indicator that we were there. Then the road headed back down and we decided to continue on to find out where it lead. Along the way we met three young cattle on the road. The last part of the road was sandy and banked at the turns so Dave had a blast driving. Finally we came to a paved road. We had a great time stopping for photos and enjoying the views. We ended up right near where we started at the dunes. What a perfect way to spend three hours It took us about an hour to get home. We got home just in time to have dinner and hang out together.
