Assynt

Okay so not Berlin but we’re over that now.
Set off early in grey skies and stopped for a coffee in Aviemore just as the clouds parted and the sun came out for a beautiful day and drive up North. Reached Ullapool by 3 and had a wee wander then Lochinver. Always wanted to come to this neck of the woods and almost did eight years ago with some fellow blippers but we got waylaid by the beaches of Harris.
What a spot. Mountains running into the sea, craggy islands, seals, seafood galore items heaven. We booked the last spot in the last restaurant in town Peets right on the pier for an early tea at 5. Fish stew was delish, N’s turbot less so. Checked into our B and B then relaxed down to catch the sunset at Achmelvich. Well the Seanad beach didn’t disappoint, but the sunset vamooshed into a cloud of haar. Had a wee walk, stared at the surreal turquoise sea and squealed at the sight of dolphins.. except they were rocks. However we did see a line seal and could see it swimming across the shallow water’s popping up to say hello to all the folk on the beach.
Back to be greeted by the lovely Shiona who poured very large g and ts and regaled us with many hilarious stories and then a wee snuffle by the window and there was a badger, quite unbothered by our presence nibbling on the bird food outside. A full fifteen minutes of wonder watching it half a foot away through the patio window.
Magical memory
