a lifetime burning

Dancing on the table

The common darters around the pond have once again been busy in this afternoon's hazy sunshine as they did their best to ensure a fresh supply of dragonflies for next year.  With no effort at modesty whatsoever, this pair were busy getting physical on the old wooden table top. At least they've given the garden hose a break this time.

At one stage this afternoon we were visited by a female southern hawker, which is a bigger dragonfly, more than twice the size of one of these little chaps.  She was busy hunting along the flower borders and shrubs and didn't seem that interested in settling, so although I went and grabbed a longer lens, she didn't hang around to be immortalised for blip.  Perhaps next time?
