Miner’s Lettuce

On the steep south-facing bank below the tall Douglas firs not many plants grow. Mostly there is herb robert and a little spindly grass, and some years there is miner’s lettuce. The miner’s lettuce is often over run by the robert, but a few months ago I pulled out as many herb robert  seedlings as I could find, so that the lettuce now dominates. It is still very young, but I cut some to mix in the avocado and mandarin salad I prepared to go with the homemade pizza in the oven. It’s nice to have something fresh and green at this time of year.
