Night Blossoms

When the cherry blossoms (sakura) come into bloom in Japan, it is a BIG deal - it dominates the news and normal lifetime comes to a standstill as everyone heads to the parks for hanami parties. Companies will also hold their own parties and the youngest staff have to go early and secure the best spot under the blossoms. Sometimes they are there for hours sitting on blue plastic sheets waiting for work to finish and their colleagues to join. Some hanami parties even have portable karaoke machines!

According to the news, today was the peak viewing day for the sakura. I couldn't miss out so went to check them out at lunch time and again in the evening. The park I went to in the evening opens late during the blossom season to allow people to enjoy illuminated sakura. It was so crowded and there was the most fantastic array of cameras and tripods on display! It was worth it though - the blossoms were stunning!! :)
