King post truss

This week the carpenter is building the roof on the extension. It's a classic king post roof truss - though one gable is actually made of the gable. The purlins are on modern hangers and not on the rafters as they would be on an older version of the same. It's one of the oldest and simplest roof trusses there is, and while not as efficient as a modern prefabricated one, it's prettier and easier to build on site - as we can't get a crane in to out site to lift much...

Our last house had queen post roof trusses, which are similar but can span a greater space, and have two verticals (queen) posts to take the load rather than a single (king) one.

I spent the day working, then in the evening DIY and stuff for my mother-in-law. I did get some dog walking too!

Back blip.
