Oracle

Its not often you get to visit somewhere you've walked passed for years and never seen within. Today was that day.

In Linlithgow there is a large Oracle building, formerly owned and operated by the now enveloped Sun Microsystems. Oracle now operate this building, but in no way the same as Sun did. All manufacturing is now gone - everything. All the machinery, people and life to the place. There are possibly 300 staff there now, well down on it's hey day of 1500 operatives manufacturing stuff. The rear building that was added in the 90's during the .com bubble is mothballed and empty also. The management suites are all nice and in heavy use it would appear for staff and clients to visit and test their solutions.
The front hall is now also empty, but has new life with the incarnation of a client testing facility and also their new "Cloud" data centre for shared services. It is very very impressive. Currently its only a small operation, but with cloud adoption its only going to get bigger. This space blipped will no doubt be filled with a highly secure datacentre (the racks shown are test equipment - no photos in the main datacentre). Who knows, Linlithgow might turn into the next Cloud IT hub for Scotland......
