Along the Canal

You'll notice there are no reflections shining out from the Stover Canal. That's because there's no water in it now. It was opened in 1792 and after a 145 years of moving granite and ball clay from Bovey Basin to the docks at Teignmouth, it closed. It was derelict by the time people started think of leisure use. There is restoration going on but for now we have a good path and cycle track along the side. I've added a shot of Ventiford Basin as an extra.

I went out earlyish for a ride to Bovey Tracey. I used mostly small lanes for the journey there and stopped there for a coffee and a flapjack after which I returned by the cycle route to Newton Abbot and then home along the lanes. It was mostly shady so it made a nice 20 miler.
