A hay harvest at Epney

The tractor rumbled round a corner and passed me en route to Saul, as I stood on the eastern bank of the River Severn. There is little road traffic in that area so the driver had no concerns about driving in the middle of the road.

From where I stood looking in the opposite direction I could see the birds on the sandbanks revealed by the low tide on the River Severn. There were mostly gulls and crows, but a common heron stood in shallow water about twenty yards downstream from a little egret. They kept their distance from each other but both walked a few hundred yards upstream looking closely in the slowly flowing water for a meal.
