The ballast is now glued down and I think the tracks now look much more realistic.  The idea to build this small diorama as an area to practise was a sound choice.  Next on the list is to create a concrete hard standing at the side of the track and then to landscape the hills on either side.  Watch this space.  A look at the picture from 9th August will show the difference clearly.
